Yost Arena, Ann Arbor, Michigan

In their second and final exhibition game of the season the Michigan Wolverine's hosted and defeated the Windsor Lancers. The game started out slowly, with neither team able to score in the first period. Things broke open in the second and never slowed down, with eight total goals being scored in the final forty minutes of the game. At the end of the night it was Michigan winning by a score of six to 2.

Both teams had two power play chances in the opening period, neither team was able to score. Both teams seemed to be just a half step slow for most of the period. Michigan seemed to pick up the intensity in the periods final minutes to make things interesting.

The first period came to an end with the score all tied up at zero. The Wolverine's held a slim six to five advantage in shots on goal.

Windsor started the second period with twelve seconds of power play time and the Wolverine's put Shawn Hunwick in at goal for the remainder of the game. Windsor was unable to score with their short man advantage, leaving the score tied at zero to zero.

Michigan got on the board first with the clock just under the eighteen minute mark with both teams skating with four men. The Wolverine's dumped the puck into the Windsor zone, banging it hard off the back boards. The puck bounced off those boards right to Treais at the face off circle to the left of the goal. Treais blasted a shot top shelf for the score. Elmblad and Lebler each picked up assists.

With the clock just under the sixteen minute mark Windsor punched the puck past Hunwick for tie the game at one goal each. The Lancers had the puck deep in the Michigan zone, moving around the Michigan net. Hunwick had lost his stick and was trying to keep the Lancers at bay, but a quick pass out to the right face off circle created a lane that allowed a sizzling shot from there to get past Hunwick for the score.

With about twelve and half minutes to play the Lancers cleared center ice on a two man break away, carrying the puck into the Michigan zone down the right boards. A Lancer skater closed on the Michigan net, burying a shot in the wide side of the net to give Windsor a two to one lead.

Barely fifteen seconds later the Lancers were whistled for a penalty putting Michigan on the power play. Roughly twenty-five seconds later, with the clock under twelve minutes, the Wolverines would score to once again tie the game at two goals each. As Michigan worked the puck around the Windsor zone they got off a shot that was blocked. The rebound was not covered and it bounced all the way out to the face off circle to the left of the Windsor goal. Hagelin was right there to fire the puck back to the net, beating the goalie for the score. Lynch and Langlais each picked up assists on the power play goal.

With just over three minutes to play Windsor was once again sent to the penalty box, putting Michigan back on the power play. Michigan got the puck to Hagelin at the Windsor blue line. From there he carried the puck into the Windsor zone, cutting across in front of the goal from right to left. As he passed the goal he tucked the puck into the left corner of the net for the score. Kampfer and Treais each picked up assists on the Wolverine's second power play goal of the period.

With 32.1 seconds to play the Windsor goalie said something to one of the officials drawing a ten minute misconduct, one of the few penalties against a goalie that can take them out of the game. The goalie was sent to the locker room and did not return to the game.

At the end of two periods of play the Wolverines held a three to two lead. Michigan out shot the Lancers thirteen to five, to hold a nineteen to ten advantage in shots on goal through forty minutes of play.

Just fifty-seven seconds into the final period the Wolverine's scored their fourth goal of the game to open up a two goal lead. Michigan dug the puck out from behind the net, getting it out front to Caporusso. As soon as he got the puck Caporusso punched it past the goalie for the score. Hagelin and Burlon each picked up assists on the goal.

With just over fourteen minutes to play the Lancers were whistled for a penalty to put Michigan back on the power play. Michigan had trouble getting the power play set up for most of the man advantage. In the last forty-five seconds of the power play they got things setup and started to move the puck around the zone. With just twenty-eight seconds left in the man advantage, roughly twelve and half minutes left to play in the game, they got a pass out to Langlais in the slot. Langlais fired off a shot that beat the goalie for the score. Caporusso and Wohlberg each picked up assists on the power play goal.

With just over four minutes to play the Wolverine's would score the games final goal, extending their lead to four goals. Michigan had the puck in tight to the goal when Caporusso somehow managed to get it into the goal for the score. Wohlberg picked up the lone assist on the goal.

The game would come to an end with Michigan winning by a score of six to two. The Wolverine's out shot the Lancers fourteen to six in the final period, to end the game with a thirty-three to sixteen advantage in shots on goal.

A good weekend for the Wolverine's as they win both exhibition games. Tonight's game was a little slow at the start, but Michigan seemed to pick it up a notch after the Lancer's scored their second goal. Hunwick got his first extended playing time and while he seemed a little overly excited in the first minutes of the second period he settled down and made some nice stops as the game went on. There is perhaps a little more clarity at the backup goalie position. Next week Michigan is playing a pair of games up in Alaska at the Kendall Auto Classic, with their next home game October 22 (a Thursday) when Niagara pays a visit.
